khayamdg_280.jpg"I thank you, the Green Party of Norway, for having objected spoken out against the illegal EU fisheries in my country", stated human rights activist Sultana Khaya during a speech to the Green Party of Norway, 15 April 2012.

"This was also the position of the Green Party all over the EU, and was one of the many reasons why the European Parliament in the end stopped its fisheries. Please know that we, the Saharawis, are very grateful for that", she stated.

Khaya also expressed a desire that Western states should start objecting to Franceæs denial of an extension of the mandate of the UN mandated in the territory, to include observation of human rights abuses.

"In two weeks from now, the mandate of the UN operation will be renewed in the Security Council. Again, France will deny human rights, to the silence of all European states. Maybe one day, countries such as Norway will protest against the French sabotage of our rights" Khaya said.

Since 1975, three quarters of the territory of Western Sahara has been occupied by Morocco. A majority of the population is still living in refugee camps in Algeria. Those who remained in their homeland are subjected to serious harassment from the Moroccan occupiers. For more than 40 years the Sahrawis have been waiting for the fullfilment of their legitimate right to self-determination.
