December 11th, Texas based oil company Kosmos Energy announced it is named as "Explorer of the Year" by the oil business.
The award is given to the company after it had discovered a major oil field offshore Ghana, according to a comapny press release today.
Paul Dailly, Kosmos Senior VP, Exploration, accepted the award in London on behalf of the company.
"At Kosmos, we apply the highest technical and professional standards to our exploration efforts and believe this creates the environment to replicate success", said James Musselman, Kosmos chairman and CEO.
The chairman did not mention anything about ethical standards.
In addition to having an illegal contract with Moroccan state oil company ONHYM in the occupied Western Sahara, Kosmos Energy also has agreements with Equatorial Guinea, one of Africa's worst dictatorships.
Since 1975, three quarters of the territory of Western Sahara has been occupied by Morocco. A majority of the population is still living in refugee camps in Algeria. Those who remained in their homeland are subjected to serious harassment from the Moroccan occupiers. For more than 40 years the Sahrawis have been waiting for the fullfilment of their legitimate right to self-determination.
