New short movie about the oppression

The brilliant short movie "Children of the Clouds" gives an extraordinary feeling on how it must be for a youth in a country with more police and security forces than civilians.

The film producer Carlos Gonzalez, who was on a visit to occupied Western Sahara in 2006, got rare footage of a Sahrawi demonstratino stopped by the Moroccan police.

The film is around 15 minutes long. It contains, among other things, an interview with El Ouali Amidane, who this summer was sentenced to five years of jail after having taken part in a demonstration.

When Gonzalez made the movie, he was thrown out of Western Sahara and accused by Moroccan authorities to be a foreign spy.

Be patient when you see the movie. Some times, it needs a very long time to buffer through. To see the film on your computer, you need to have QuickTime installedYou can download that programme here.

Since 1975, three quarters of the territory of Western Sahara has been occupied by Morocco. A majority of the population is still living in refugee camps in Algeria. Those who remained in their homeland are subjected to serious harassment from the Moroccan occupiers. For more than 40 years the Sahrawis have been waiting for the fullfilment of their legitimate right to self-determination.
